00:00
even when they told me the concept of
00:01
playing without talking i was like how
00:02
are we going to do that yeah but then
00:03
it’s to kind of reflect how we in
00:05
society don’t like
00:06
don’t always share how we feel
00:07
[Music]
00:13
so ian today a silent football game
00:15
interested to see how this one
00:17
plays out obviously the silence is kind
00:19
of symbolizing the internal struggles
00:21
that people go through
00:22
with their mental health you’re here
00:24
proudly repping of course for your club
00:26
fc not alone why did you set it up in
00:27
the first place
00:28
so i set up fc not alone with my cousin
00:30
on the back of his struggles with mental
00:31
health i had also had
00:33
mental health issues i didn’t really
00:34
have a label for them i didn’t really
00:35
understand them too much we tried to
00:37
turn a very negative situation into
00:38
something a bit more positive
00:40
i think there’s been a real shift in
00:41
football as well hasn’t there on a
00:42
professional level with some big players
00:44
talking out about their own struggles
00:46
and that’s so
00:46
important to people isn’t it i mean that
00:48
happens in every workplace that people
00:50
sadly feel like they can’t speak up
00:52
because they’re worried
00:53
what might happen to their career so
00:54
that is only natural what happens in
00:56
football
00:56
jesse lingard his confidence seems to be
00:59
flying high at the moment and it’s well
01:00
documented that he was open about some
01:02
of the things that he had gone through
01:03
obviously everyone has
01:04
highs and lows and um you know my lows
01:07
have been you know really low the game’s
01:09
about to kick off
01:10
so let’s get moving shall we yeah we
01:11
better go got to line the team up i’ve
01:13
caught friend of match the day x big zoo
01:15
in the warm up right let’s go put my
01:18
head down oh come on
01:19
so silent football game all about the
01:21
silent struggle that people go through
01:23
with their mental health
01:24
super important to be here today isn’t
01:26
it of course yeah it’s good to kind of
01:27
talk about issues
01:28
like this you know you normally don’t
01:30
kind of think about things like this
01:31
you’re kind of just trying to
01:32
get a top bins you know i mean so even
01:34
when they told me the concept of playing
01:36
without talking i was like how are we
01:37
going to do that yeah but then it’s to
01:38
kind of reflect how we in society
01:40
don’t like don’t always share how we
01:43
[Music]
01:52
feel
01:54
it’s so weird to watch they’re all
01:56
struggling to pass because they’re not
01:57
communicating i feel like the only
01:58
person may be enjoying the match so far
02:00
is the rep because he’s not getting an
02:01
airport you know
02:10
they’re only managing to get like one or
02:11
two passes before the game kind of
02:13
falls apart and i think it brings it
02:14
back to the message that it’s really
02:16
important to talk
02:17
and to share you can’t go at life
02:24
yes matthew good game how you feeling
02:27
kind of getting my breath back to be
02:28
honest with you felt kind of tense
02:29
watching i’ll be honest it was tense it
02:31
was tense to play as well because i
02:32
think everyone was kind of screaming
02:34
in their head almost like normally where
02:36
you’d be like give me the ball going
02:37
or find me find me and then you had to
02:39
hold all of that in it’s definitely
02:41
powerful and i think the message of you
02:42
know how important communication is
02:44
both on the pitch and off the pitch is
02:46
uh was definitely a
02:47
show it doesn’t have to be a somber chat
02:52
um about mental health even
02:55
playing five sides there are so many
02:58
ways of
02:58
communicating for me i was waiting to
03:01
return to football after lockdown i was
03:02
like i need football right now i’m not
03:04
in a good state you know
03:05
since i came back i’m feeling quite good
03:07
and confident you know
03:08
we function like a regular football team
03:10
and it’s more just having knowledge that
03:11
if you were
03:12
to want to share and kind of confide in
03:14
someone you have this supportive
03:15
background and supportive teammates and
03:16
it’s a safe
03:17
a safe space thank you so much i’ll let
03:19
you go and get in the ice bath and
03:20
recover
03:20
i need it get a pint as possible
03:34
you
